"Torcher" for torture

I encountered this usage today at Yahoo! Answers (source of all that is good in the world) and looking into it led me here.

One example:

“what was the torcher that they used in the Salem witch trials??”

Eggcorn, or misspelling? Of course, I chose an example that seems to support the eggcorn conclusion :-) But there are, I am sad to report, many, many, many, many more…
