'leaves up to its name' for 'lives up to its name'

If something lives up to its name, it fulfills, does not disappoint, but the ‘leaving’ variant at first made no sense until I considered leaving as bequeathing rather than departing. The eggcorn, if that is what it is, seems content to rely upon its reputation rather than strive like the acorn to maintain an established standard, but it does seem to work, if only just:

Re: 'leaves up to its name' for 'lives up to its name'

There’s also “to lift up to one’s name.” I guess the idea is sort of like “rise to the occasion” or “to maintain the same lofty standards.” (This reminds me a bit of yesterday’s discussion of “head over hills.”) It may be a regionalism; at least a couple of the users appear to be from East Asia, – but then again one pretty clearly isn’t, and I don’t really have enough instances to be sure there’s a pattern. Examples:

They are called Thailand – Land of Smiles. They really lift up to their name…
