Seems that eluded is often used in place of alluded but far less often in reverse.
As in “I think what he was eluding to is …”
Anyone think of a reason why it is so much more prevalent one way then the other? I guess in English more words begin el.. like elephant and elevator, and fewer words in daily usage with all- (alligator, allotrope)
Anyone see this as eggcornish rather than just misusage?

Here’s the example I stumbled upon this evening:
Reference to HALLA BOL is being eluded to and not that of MAQBOOL or THE BLUE UMBRELLA as these films were off mainstream.
