A new occurrence recently, on the CBC news comment site, induces me to present this disturbing substitution. I’m putting this in slips and potential misspellings because I prefer to think that that’s what it is. Blackmail comes from “black” for evildoing, and M.E. “mail” from “rent or tribute”, so it’s a form of extortion. My apologies for this one.
