"Ephemeral" for femoral

The Latin word for the thigh was femur, and as an adjective it becomes femoral. Perps unfamiliar with the femur can label the veins of the thigh, and the common hernias which may occur at the joining of the leg and the trunk, as ephemeral.

The transcatheter method of closing an atrial septal defect is accomplished via a cardiac catheterization procedure. And that involves placing a catheter through the ephemeral vein. The ephemeral vein is in the upper part of the thigh.

Edit: To clarify, I don’t think this is an eggcorn, but rather a mondegreen. There may be some interpretation of an ephemeral hernia as something superficial or fleeting, but there’s no evidence that a connection being made.
