Common mistake but I think it can be considered an eggcorn.

Welcome to the Eggcorn Forum kimmel. Perhaps we could find some example taken from the internet or daily life. Also what we need is some indication that the imagery which accompanies “later” is different from that for “latter.” Really, it’s the imagery shift that distinguishes eggcorns from other types of language reshapings.
