‘England coach Fabio Capello and squad received no end of criticism back home after a luckluster group performance.
Poorly written and illogical , with luckluster (and infrequent) action sequences, and cheesy special effects; aside from some likable performers
Asked about why the state’s seen luckluster results so far from the recent jump in education funding, Adams said it was far too soon to see’
There are loads of these but I can’t see the semantics, unless a poor result lusts for better luck, which is a stretch of the imagination. It’s a sort of half-eggcorn: the writers have understood ‘lack’ to be ‘luck’ without thinking the whole thing through. Not completely WTF, though.

Odd, that, since current BrEnglish vowelish wanderings are distinctly non-u; honey now rhymes with bonny instead of runny which is now pronounced Ronnie, for example. Many ‘lucklustres’ too, which minimises any sexual desire, leaving as a possible meaning – any shine or gleam of talent or ability being entirely accidental, pure luck.
A variant supporting my non-u view is:
Actually, they took Olats (her presumed scientific name) in somewhat a lackloster way.
Same CEO’s who allow poor design and lackloster performance be ingrained in the US automotive industry.
For me, these were a lackloster Olympics- the performances were not the ones that stand out in your mind like in previous years.
