"spongifoam" for spongiform

Bovine spongiform encephalopathy, or BSE, is thought to lead to the development of Variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease, or VCJD, in humans. Both maladies are real mouthfuls. The height of a worldwide BSE scare coincided with my stay in Spain in 1997. They still won’t take my blood at the blood bank because of that.

The problem with the BSE prion is that eventually it turns your brain to sponge, Bob, or, to be more pastorally correct, to Swiss cheese. I like the alternative image some have, that your grey matter becomes spongifoam.

China Post
reinforced measures concerning feeds and slaughtering to stop the spread of bovine spongifoam encephalopathy (BSE)

Botswana post
a risk assessment study has yielded a zero risk of the Bovine Spongyfoam Encehalopathy, or mad cow disease, in Botswana.

Biohazard epidemic
Organophosphates have been speculated to help cause bovine springform as well

Your blood may crawling with prionic wigglies, but your radar for good eggcorns is still supersensitive.
