lock, step, and barrel

Christine O’Donnell, in the Delaware debate, said her opponent, was with Obama, Reid, and Pelosi “lock, step, and barrel.”

Re: lock, step, and barrel

Nice! But unless O’Donnell says that normally, and thinks of it as the normal way to say it, it’s probably a one-off blend rather than an eggcorn for her. The context is certainly right for a blend: she may well have had both phrases, “marching in lockstep with them” and “with them lock, stock and barrel”, in mind, and if so (and under the stress of a debate) it would be easy to mix them.
.
It may be an eggcorn for her, of course, and the chances go up when you see how many other people use it.
.
In any case, it has been reported before here , by klakritz (as usual). See also kem’s log, stock and barrel
