Canadian Thanksgiving this weekend. I noticed that a local White Spot restaurant announces on their sign that they are serving “pupkin pie.”
Thanksgiving is a gauntlet that vegetarians have to run each year, but I really think this is taking things a bit too far.
Hatching new language, one eggcorn at a time.

Also off topically, cranberries got their name from a German/Dutch word for crane-berries, based on a fancied connection to the cranial shape of the flowers:
I suspect that the word for cranberries in Quebec, canneberges, is a eggcornical-poteau rosy corruption of cranberry. In the dictionaries, canneberge is “XVIII, origin unknown”. It would be transliterated as “shoreline cane”, which makes sense from its marshy habit. Who knows.
