You might already be a weaner

Just for fun, I’m going to enter this one as a contest. I know of three reasonably widespread and sensible eggcoronations of “wean off”. An eggcornistan challenge.

Edit: Wait, there are at least four.

Re: You might already be a weaner

OK, looks like that was too easy so nobody bit. Let’s start with the first one I stumbled on. To ‘lean’ yourself off of something would be either to bend yourself away from it, or to go lean on the fuel mix.

Since moving to the West Coast I have leaned off of red meat although I still eat poultry and seafood.
http://www.hollywoodholland.com/how-to- … ased-diet/

I was on meds for over 6 years. After graduation i leaned myself off of it all forever! [...] If you are on medication..get off of it now! its not worth it! lean yourself off, go get your rec, and be happy!! who wants to have side affects all your life?
Blazed gamerz

Otherwise, i’ve leaned myself off of them and try to do natural protien.
The protein shakes

I have already leaned myself off of watch TV/Movies, unless it’s with my family. I’ve also leaned myself off of playing PS3 games and what not. Now I’m trying to lean off of playing/using the computer.
Gamer bioware

The next one is not an eggcorn – just fun.

I have been on vicodin for years for back pain and have been wiening myself off for months
http://www.prohealth.com/me-cfs/blog/bo … ?id=340210

I’m wiening myself off the analogs as well. Its much easier to do once you find a juice you love.
Vaping juices from E-cigarette cartomizers

Number two—‘weaking’ yourself off of something, must refer to gradually reducing your fix.

I’ll keep working at weaking myself off of the salt. Glad to see I’m not the only one who prefers salty over sweet!:-D

I have a love/hate relationship with delay… it’s such a suckass crutch lame riff doubling flub covering two timing no good dirty sob but damn I have a hard time not using it when I have it at a gig… I am weaking myself off it with a nice leslie pedal. NOW I am over using and abusing that one

Sadly, it’s a bit like a drug; you have to weak yourself off slowly.
Internet commenting is a monkey on my back

Being selective in your consumption or your habits leads to ‘weeding’ yourself off.

I’ve been weeding myself off of energy drinks and pop/soda/whatever the fuck YOU call it.

It took me a long time to discover that weeding myself off of sugar, ice cream and bread would work wonders for my tummy
Being a mensch

Slowly I’ve been lowering the nicotine levels of the juice I vape, weeding myself off of nicotine has been EASY so far.
Vaping cherryCola

Finally, the one suggested by the title to this post: fighting successfully to ‘win’ yourself of temptation.

I had to think of something completely different when her email address or her name came into to my thoughts. For me it was the elephants on Winnie the pooh effluents weird and wacky … You know it started to do the trick. I started winning myself of her. Amen. I started building a better relationship again with my wife
Cybersinning

I wouldn’t even put my full name on fb, talk less of personal details. I’m gradually winning myself of it’s narcissistic inducing aura.
That evil facebook

for when you don’t actually need a hit of nicotine but are simply enjoying the hand to mouth motion of your e-cigarette…this will also help with the process winning yourself off nicotine all together.
those crazy ecigs again

OK, now the longer shot, a nonce.

me and my husband having been trying to get pregnant for the past 4 months ,ive been having somewhat regular periods we do both smoke cigs…but i am slowly wheeling myself off of them

Um, yes … just what I was thinking.

To me, “leaned” feels like the pick of the letter.

There are a few example of “wend myself off:” http://www.google.ca/search?q=%22wend+myself+off%22

Re: You might already be a weaner

“Leaning” is great—I hadn’t come up with that, and I agree it’s one of the best of Kem’s very impressive list.

I have/have had too much grading to participate, but I’d only come up with “winning” and “wiening” of the things that are on Kem’s list. I also found “whining” (which I think works okay) and “wining,” which may require more justification.

Oops: I was reading too fast; that was David’s own response to his challenge. Still an impressive list….

Re: You might already be a weaner

Bravo. “Wean of’ is clearly an acorn of plenty. I hadn’t thought of wending or whining oneself off; good ones. Wining oneself is actually a life strategy of mine.

Here are some others, some of which stumble towards the pail, but the list culminates in a new personal fave.

I am on a low protein, low cholesterol, and low sodium diet. I will be wining myself off of pop within the next month and I drink at least 8 glasses of water a day if not more
http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage.asp?i … ent_page=2

dont put them in your mouth, dont chew, dont swallow. or try winding yourself off them gradually.
Get behind me, potato crisps

so if YOU want to stop cuz YOU KNOW WITHOUT A DOUBT it does NOT help, take steps winding yourself off (cutting down ur dosage to eventually stop)

i like your mentioning about gradually waning yourself off of food, so to speak, with regular intervals of fasting juicing and eating

Ive been keening myself off pain meds gradually from what once was needed every 4 hours

I take 9 pills a day for epilepsy.3 a day for sugar.1 for cholesteral.1 for high-blood pressure.1 for a thyroid condition.1 for acid reflux.1 325mg aspirin for a blood thinner.Enough is enough. I am gonna start bleeding myself off all that crap.

Re: You might already be a weaner

The mind, confronted by an archaic Anglo-Saxon word, is endlessly inventive. When the chickens want to leave the coop, vowels and consonants can’t keep them penned.
