In a matter of speaking

I’d like to propose “in a matter of speaking” as an eggcorn. I have known several people who say this every time they mean “in a manner of speaking”.

Google hits:

Web: “matter” , 25,100 hits — “manner”, 417,000 hits

Newsgroups: “matter”, 1680 hits— “manner” , 24,200 hits

A few of these hits are, of course, discussions about the phrases, but the majority are actual usage.
