From the modern sense of “ad lib” as improvised or extemporaneous dialogue
Used in the context of extemporized public announcements, where the herald’s wit and ability to speak smoothly and mellifluously are particularly valued. Thus, “lib” becomes “glib.” Probably not a simple typo, since “glib” seems quite apropriate and informative in this context.
Google returns no hits for [“ad glib” “ad-glib” “adglib”] but asks if I meant to search for ad lib, et al.
