"in stall for you" for "in store for you"

The pronunciation of “in store for you” in non-rhotic accents is almost homophonic with the pronunciation of “in stall for you” in accents which also use a dark “L”, so it’s easy to understand how someone might mishear the former as the latter: the eggcornishness comes, I suggest, because people are thinking of the verb “install”, and also of things displayed on a metaphorical stall, rather than in a metaphorical store.

Look at the fine hay we have in stall for you! Good one, Terry, though this one sounded vaguely familiar.

Re: "in stall for you" for "in store for you"

I have absolutely no memory whatsoever of that “instore” “prestall” and so on business linked to above. Should I be worried?

On the plain in Spain where it mainly rains.

It was entirely new to me, too. Not to worry, I think. Vita longa, memoria brevis, interrete aeterna.
