“Machinations” has always suggested to me the workings of a machine, such as a political machine, so “mechanizations” is not too far a stretch. I say it’s an eggcorn.

It might be easier to get agreement on whether or not “machinations” is an acorn/flounder of “mechanizations” than on how to pronounce it. Listen to the differences:
