irkatate vs irritate

I think this may be a family “joke” that gained common usage. Irkatate is a combination of “irk” and “irritate”. Even spellcheck knows what it means (intends) to mean (convey).

I agree with you about its likely being a joke, but I’m wondering if it really is in common usage. Did you do a search and find some examples?. In any case, it’’s unlikely to be an eggcorn, due to the sharp difference in pronunciation. It’s a cute blend.
