‘Stare decisis,’ Latin ofr ‘to stand by what is decided, is the legal doctrine of precedent. The pronunciation of the 2 versions is roughly the same. Is ‘starry decisis’ understood as a decsision handed down by the ‘stars’ of the legal world (i.e., the higher courts)? 100+ ghits:

What about starry decisis? Doesn’t that count for anything? It counts a lot in the eyes of the lower courts. But it’s a license to steal in the Top Court.
