Imagine my delight to have a major, 8000-acre fire seemingly named after me—the Wragg Fire, so called because it started in the vicinity of Wragg Canyon in northern California. I figured someone would call it the Rag Fire, perhaps assuming that, like some fires, it started in a pile of oily rags. The good news is that I found a couple of examples:
Here in the bay area, the rag fire in napa and solano county has burned 6500 acres and it is 65% contained.

A bit cooler, but still breezy around the rag fire there.

The bad news is that, as transcripts from spoken material are commonly replete with spelling errors, often due to the near-manic speed required of the typist, the likelihood that these examples reflect an eggcornish meaning connection is dubious.
