"Barbie pins" for "bobby pins"

There is apparently such a thing as Barbie pins, an accessory to go with Barbie dolls, and there are lots of references to that product online. But I found a number of examples of Barbie pins which seemed to really evince a belief on the part of the perp that that’s what these things most of us call bobby pins are really called. I think it’s likely that some folks assume such pins are named after the Barbie doll—even the generic bobby pins that aren’t Barbie products. Others who use this eggcorn may be assuming a sort of unknown “Barbie”, the name being used without reference to any specific person (or anyone who’s remembered, anyway), much like “lazy Susan”.

DOOR WOULDN’T OPEN!!! It’s locked form the inside.. tried everything, screwdrivers, barbie pins…

How will you maintain your open hairstyle? It is not a great situation for your locks, but Barbie pins will save the day. There are different designs available for Barbie pins, which when applied on hair, look stylish and modest.
Carry the Barbie pins with you as they can form new hairstyles also.

A Lehman. There may be some small reference to the Barbie hair style in the switch.

“Bobby pins: 1930s: from bob2 (because bobby pins were originally used with bobbed hair) + -y2.”

Does the Barbie hairstyle have anything to do with bobbed hair for any speakers? I suppose it could be an opposite, but probably just a serendipitous sound-alike.
