disease -> decease

A friend of mine with less-than-perfect spelling mentioned a false positive search result for “CDC”. It was the “center for decease control”. One of his usual typos, I thought. But with another moment’s thought, it made sense.

Re: disease -> decease

Google shows me about a dozen occurrences, some translated from Chinese (so they don’t count). I blame this, like most eggcorns, on spelling checkers.

And now that I mention it, he may just be reporting his search results verbatim, rather than mangling it on his own.
