The throws of a torrent love affair

When you’re in the throws of a torrent love affair it’s like you’re under a spell

It’s an obsession … a religion … a torrent love affair. And with that type of emotional investment, that type of passion, emotions can run high

We were taught in elementary school that the world has three climate zones: torrid, temperate and frigid. Temperate, people still know. If you used the other two today people would think you’re making a joke. Torrid and torrent both come from the same PIE root, *ters, for “to dry”. They appeared in English about the same time in the early 17th c. Torrid originally applied to the torrid zone, but quickly was adopted as an exciting adjective for all things hot, parched and, nowadays, steamy. Torrent seems to have somehow morphed from the roaring of flames into a general term for any rapid onrush. A torrent love affair carries you along in its raging burning onrushing hormonal currents until you’re thrown off.

Nice. And in the first example you have an example of the old standby, throws << throes.

There are a few examples of the round-tripper:

Community chat center: “Excavating a deep trench up Old Topanga would impact countless oaks and installing sewer laterals through a stream, which becomes a raging torrid during periods of heavy rain, is an environmental disaster.”

Web fiction: “The raging torrid of water cascaded from above drowning everything in a veil of white and filling the valley with deafening noise.”

I think “throws” is just demonstrating the fact that people no longer know how to spell.
