crap shoot, for craps shoot?

is “crap shoot” correct? If the meaning is to “roll the dice and take your chances” that would refer to the game of craps….not a colloquialism for “taking a crap”, let alone taking a crap which somehow “shoots”....just saying.

I know almost nothing about dice games in general, and craps specifically, but isn’t “crap out” a term in the game? I think “crap” is already part of the vocabulary of craps, and “a crap shoot” is correct.
