neckless for necklace

I can’t see it as an eggcorn, but on a forum today I saw a comment about someone buying a neckless, and it was clear that she meant necklace. I’m sure she attached no meaning to her misspelling – just wrote it as she hears it, and probably never saw “necklace” written, or maybe pronounced it “neck – lace” and thought it was something else.

Re: neckless for necklace

Interesting observation. Checking “necklace/neckless of” in Google ngram suggests that this misspelling occurs in printed literature in about 1/20 of 1% of the cases.

Hatching new language, one eggcorn at a time.
