'scorch the rumours' for 'scotch the rumours'

A searing blast of flame seems a nicely eggcornish interpretation of the rather opaque ‘scotch’.

Yesterday’s scenes should help the couple scorch rumours that their romance is on the rocks

The Burmese junta and one of its allies, the ethnic Kachin ceasefire group Kachin Independence Organization, held a public briefing to scorch rumors that they are preparing to attack the KIO.

Even as he considers himself a simple man, Davies past libidinous life threatens to destroy his career, making it necessary to scorch the rumors of his bisexuality by marrying Rachel Dean.

But the software company today moved to scorch the rumours.

Some examples are abound to be finger-slip typos with t and r sitting adjacent on the keyboard, but here’s a bit of confirmation from the world of chillies.

In my defence … I thought they were called scorch bonnets, not scotch. I thought I had to do the scorching myself, hence the flames… Honestly!
