A scourged earth policy

Scorched-earth tactics are applied by a retreating army to deny resources of any kind to the advancing enemy, by destroying crops and infrastructure. The vivid image has come to be used indiscriminately for any widely destructive tactics, even by the victor. The enemy will be made to taste the lash.

The devastation the British concentration camps and scourged-earth policy brought into the lives of the Afrikaners was indescribable.

Wait, that was only three months ago. Egad. Scourged, scarred and beaten to the punchbowl by Peter on both counts – and that thread was surely the inspiration for the above as well. My decline into doltage goes vertical.
