'milk pond' for 'mill pond'

A mill pond is formed by damming a stream to produce sufficient head of water to operate a watermill. Mill ponds are invariably described as smooth or calm. Milk too is smooth, and could be described as calming as well as nutritious. A pond full of the stuff would presumably be even more potent.

We cruised in early June and the weather was perfect and the MED was like a milk pond literally…!

Pearlescent in the dim light of morning the sea stretches to the horizon, silky smooth like a milk pond.

Calm as a mill pond – or as someone of my acquaintance would say ‘still as a milk pond’!

The surface was as placid as a milk pond, but huge and with clusters of lily pads gathered by the walls.

The ocean is calm as a milk pond and so blue. Mr. and Mrs. Hardy found us on deck. He speaks English beautifully. It is so good to hear him talk.

That’s a strange one.

Hatching new language, one eggcorn at a time.
