marriage vowels

Another one from a student paper: “People should be true to their marriage vowels.”

I suppose it depends on how they pronounce them.

Utterly charming. I wish one of my students would commit this one.

It gets over 800 hits on Google. Many are jokes, of course, but some are definitely the real deal.

I’m leaning toward malapropism rather than eggcorn. But than again, “I do” is two thirds vowels….
