The origin of the term “flack” for someone promoting a product or a political party is not known. There are rumours, of course, ones that affront the olfactory receptors during the sniff test, about it referring to an advertising executive with that surname, even though this man did apparently exist.
But it has doesn’t seem to have more than an eggcorneal relationship with anti-aircraft fire. Someone should tell CNN that.
