My daughter/eggcorn scout came up with a live one yesterday, from an online classified ad: “4 drawers dresser, good condition. Real wood, not partial board.” From my early brushes with the carpenterial trade, I know that particle board is beneath contempt – that’s not real wood. It dulls your tools. An indignity to craftsmen. It is a kindness to call it partial board. Eighty-five bonafide hits.
Being a cabinet maker, my days consist mostly of partial board, and veneers.
Is this product made of partial board or pieces that are entirely wood?

I’m having a hard time with this one because the phonological differences are so… pronounced … so to speak. (2 vs 3 syllables, the disappearance of k and conversion of ti to sh.) Though I suppose we’ve had other ones equally far-adapted. I guess that hardness is dulling my chisels, and so is beneath contempt. I’d never saw such a thing.
