'peek' for 'peep'

While I’m thoroughly familiar with ‘peek’ in its written form, I’ve rarely heard it and never used it. ‘Peep’, on the other hand is an early entry into my earliest vocabulary and unlike ‘peek’, is a sound as well as a brief glance.
Little Bo-peek almost works, but somehow peep-a-boo doesn’t. People who might ordinarily peep, perhaps increasingly aware that the larger world peeks, might be peeking where only a peep will do.

In the McLaren Vale too, we’ve not heard a peek about the co-habitation of Jaraman and we think that is because similarly all the Winemakers enjoy a very good …

I’ve not heard a peek from the author at all for months.

Imagine the reaction of real scientists in a real science to such a statement. And not a peek out of them.

Hence not a peek out of govt mouth about the damage done to the coral reefs. A govt that promised better but producess nothing.

Here might take us to an Ngram of rising and falling peeks and peeps? Oh no it didn’t.
