I invent eggcorns. And then I look to see if anybody anywhere ever has said or written the things I make up. This probably is not the best technique, judging by the small amout of fresh meatcorn I bring to this forum… But I do it sometimes.
This afternoon, something jorkel said here inspired me. I whistled for my egg hound, and set off into the Great Google Forest. Typing in my inspiration, I got two ghits, but YIKES! Obvious nasty porn sites, even though my made-up eggcorn was not dirty in any way. I should have high-tailed it back to civilization, but I made the mistake of opening the ghits. BARF-OLA!!! DISGUSTING PHOTOS!
I closed Google, and came home with my tail between my eggs. I am not telling what my imaginary eggcorn was, because I do not want impressionable young eggs to follow my sordid trail.
How did this happen? It appears that these two creepy porn sites incorporate long strings of random words, and the two words I typed in happened to show up in proper order in these word strings, within the porn sites. Those of you who know the Google Jungle better than I, can you explain this?

Tom, I try hard not to invent eggcorns, but puns will come. I was pleased with myself for coining “reptile dysfunction” as the true explanation for the extinction of the dinosaurs. Then I googled it and found that several thousand people have apparently had the same idea, but not accidentally, alas.

Learned FB – Thanks for your ever-so-slightly off-color true eggcorn story. Other posters may want to contribute stories. I hope so. It may be fun, and it may keep silliness out of the oh-so-scholarly parts of the site. Cheers!
