'pixies' for 'pixels'

‘million pixels’ – 1,070,000 ghits
‘million pixies’ – 155 ghits

While it is hard to imagine that anyone seriously believes that a camera contains supernatural nano-entities, it is easy to mishear ‘pixels’ as ‘pixies’ and it is perhaps comforting to impose a familiar word onto a perplexing technological element like a ‘pixel’.

Re: 'pixies' for 'pixels'

Peter, I wonder if “pixies” is just an intentional short-hand for “pixels” ...not that the latter is particularly long to begin with. But high familiarity with trade words—rather than the low familiarity that usually begets eggcorns—might be the motivation for creating a trendy sounding jargon. I could be wrong: a closer look at examples could be helpful.

By the way, congrats on the “Eggcornista” title! Long overdue.
