Listen hear! << Listen here!

Inspired by David Tuggy’s suggestion that “You wouldn’t say you were going to take a listen-hear or a touch-feel” in the discussion of look-see, I went looking for instances of “Listen hear!” in place of the exhortation, “Listen here!”

There are many examples (about 233,000 rGhits) of “listen hear” on the web, but most of these cross punctuation or phrase boundaries, as in “Listen, Hear, Sing!” plus there are many presumably intentional uses in titles, lyrics, etc.

I did, however find at least three examples of what I was looking for by searching for “You listen hear”. There are undoubtedly more out there to be found.

“Now you listen hear you are going to go back in to the house and say sorry to your mother ok”, said Tony

I’ll also note that this is a reversal of here >> hear, which is in the Database, and previously discussed on the Forum.

I’m not sure if this is really an eggcorn, perhaps understood as a sort of “odd semantic reduplication” a little like that in look-see, or if it’s just a misspelling. Maybe using both listen and hear makes the exhortation to listen even stronger?
