"moltive cocktail" for "Molotov cocktail"

Sometimes you google something without expecting too much. “Voltive candle” led me to this, but I didn’t really expect to see 39 unique hits – even in badly spelled forum posts. The phonological distance from “Molotov” to “moltive” may disqualify this, but it also indicates that the users were willing to reshape the original to a fairly impressive degree. If they’re actually making sense of this, I imagine the “molt-“ is seen as implying “molten,” as in “molten lava.” Examples:

I enjoy waiting by ATM machines with a Moltive Cocktail (or other profoundly aesthetic incendiary device (see style points) and Setting people on fire (easy money maker)

I’ll start it off by throwing a bottle of moltive cocktail Jones Soda out of the sliding door of the A-team van while my driver speeds away from a burning lab with prototype transformers chasing us.

And if I was Bryan I would throw a moltive cocktail in her SRT, brick on the gas, and drive it through your front door.

Bizarre! If people do construe melting, though, and aren’t doing this on purpose, it’s eggcornaceous/eggcornical/whatever.

Re: "moltive cocktail" for "Molotov cocktail"

I’m not sure of the moltive for this one either: molt off. Is it incendiary or ecdysiastic?

maybe its a molt off cocktail... maybe a grenade…. i say if they are man enough to run up and throw a rock… then they better be ready to man up
