We already have our Official Eggcorn Forum Music Group (Atomic Kitten). Shouldn’t we also have Official Eggcorn Forum Merchandise? We could sponsor our own brand of wine, our own tea, our own entrée, etc. Think of the advertising income we could generate. Think of the lawsuits.
For our Official Eggcorn Forum Furnichair I nominate the lowly chesterfield. It goes by many names, most of them with high potential for confusion. In earlier posts we looked at perturbations of couch, chaise longue, and divan. We can add to the list another synonym: some people apparently think the overstuffed living room appointment is a “softa†instead of a “sofa.†To wit:
Hellboy forum: “Was Sitting On The Softa Beside Rosalin Unitl Liz Saw The Door Open â€
Webspace guestbook entry: “You and your sisters also look very cozy all together on the softa...reminds mom and me of our house.â€
Stage instructions on TV transcript: “Lily and Kevin are on the softa in the living room watching â€
Hatching new language, one eggcorn at a time.

I like these syntheses; there’s scope for others now that the eggcorn saddlebags are groaning.
Softa, who’d a thunk it. Nevertheless:

Cartouche-designed Divanport/ Daybed with Unique Spiral Cushion Lever
This last one is a nonce that is sprinkled around the web in this form. You might be forgiven for thinking it was designed by a Monsieur Cartouche. Cartouche must refer to the sausage-shaped cushion, that bears a resemblance to the paper cartridge of gunpowder once used by the French. Online dictionaries say that an alternative spelling is “cartouch”. Interesting – is this to remove the “ee” sound from the end, as in “cartouchy”?
