insulated incident = isolated incident

This example is a little weird b/c the word “isolated” is actually used later in the same sentence!

“This is an insulated incident as far as our campus goes, but not so isolated when we go beyond greater Boston and Massachusetts,” Chan said. “The message it sends to new students is particularly distressing since it’s so early in the year.”

Re: insulated incident = isolated incident

The same word spelled correctly elsewhere in the text might be a tipoff that some sort of WTF short circuit has resulted in a typing misfire. In this case, it looks like the in syllable that starts incident has hopped back to infect the adjective. As evidence of this mechanism, we should also find “insolated incidents”, without any solar involvement.

The story is a good example of how an insolated incident in Elvis Presley’s life could wind up having a substantial effect on his public image.
