doggy dog, professioncy, spelling

Cleaning up my inbox today. Some thoughts to ponder:

(1) Arnold Zwicky found a cartoon about one of our database eggcorns.

(2) Mark Liberman reports an outstanding eggcorn. See his entry on “professioncy” (for proficiency) at Language Log.

Yeah, kem, I used to have a girlfriend who said “doggy-dog world”. She was the same one who said “sort of speak” instead of “so to speak”.
