Well, the original form of the idiom is undoubtedly “another think coming”.

While serving on a grand jury once, I heard a witness testify in his story that at one point he had to ‘take a urine’.

I know there is a lot of debate about this one, but it seems to me that the expression “If you THINK such-and-such, you have ANOTHER think coming” makes more sense than “thing.” “Another thing? Just what would that thing be?
Feeling quite combobulated.
