'coup deter' for 'coup d'etat'

I came across this yesterday, and Kem’s recent post on deter/detour has expanded the possiblities. To deter can mean to oppose so the eggcorner – or should it be eggcornee? – may be trying to usher a little meaning into an unfamiliar sound.

Though I’m not sure what to make of this:

Surely if they were that concerned about Christianity they would do a coup de terre and implement their laws in their own lands then worry …
