Re: crockenbush instead of croquembouche

There’s eggcorn potential in crockenbush if the users make a connection to the tree shape, I think. Not too sure about the crocken part – there’s scope for further reimagining there.

Here are the things I turned up by looking for other ways to mangle and/or comprehend the word croquembouche. In no particular order.

chef rant OP: CROCKENBUSH and HOW DO YOU MAKE IT?
Withering reply: This person with limited experience is going to attempt to do a Croche en Bouche

That would signify a “crooked in mouth” rather than a “mouth crunch”. That’s one more for the self-referential bin.

gastro buzz Just got off the phone w my Nana. She was talking about some dessert called a Quackenbush. Turns out she meant croquembouche. LMAO.

Groucho would approve.

fanfic And for Christ sake where’s the cake?! Come on I ordered a cake this time not a damn crock n’ bush.” Lauren yelled. She really goes all out for anything and everything. I’m just glad she didn’t order a crock n’ bush or whatever.

reddit OP: Does anyone have any tips on how to be happier while single?
Reply: Yes! you could totally use your new cooking talents to impress ‘did you know I make an incredible crock n bush?’...

I wonder how they explain the crock part to themselves.

caterer’s fb page comment I still want a croaking bush cake! !!

Re: crockenbush instead of croquembouche

Tiny observation : The precise phrase (French of course) is ‘croque EN bouche’ = Bite / crunch IN the mouth.

Interesting. Do you say it that way, monsieur B? Even when salivating?

But the name of the pastry is croquembouche.

Re: crockenbush instead of croquembouche

I’m always reminded of an episode of The Mary Tyler Moore Show, in which Sue Ann made a fancy dinner, finishing with a croquembouche. Lou had a few drinks (as always) and said “I’ll have some more of that groganbush thing”.
