There’s eggcorn potential in crockenbush if the users make a connection to the tree shape, I think. Not too sure about the crocken part – there’s scope for further reimagining there.
Here are the things I turned up by looking for other ways to mangle and/or comprehend the word croquembouche. In no particular order.

That would signify a “crooked in mouth” rather than a “mouth crunch”. That’s one more for the self-referential bin.
gastro buzz Just got off the phone w my Nana. She was talking about some dessert called a Quackenbush. Turns out she meant croquembouche. LMAO.

Tiny observation : The precise phrase (French of course) is ‘croque EN bouche’ = Bite / crunch IN the mouth.

I’m always reminded of an episode of The Mary Tyler Moore Show, in which Sue Ann made a fancy dinner, finishing with a croquembouche. Lou had a few drinks (as always) and said “I’ll have some more of that groganbush thing”.
