"bookstraps" for "bootstraps"

Not sure what to make of this. If these are not wtf typos, then what is the image being invoked? Relying on education to get ahead? Boots mostly don’t have straps any more, but even less do books. If it is at all eggcornish, it has moved in a direction that makes less sense than the acorn. It paints an alternative picture even so.

now its time to pull myself up by the bookstraps and get serious.

My family are “pick yourself up by the bookstraps” kind of people

EO: Anyone with annual incomes above $1 million will no longer pay any Illinois income taxes. Rauner then commented, “This will inspire all Illinois citizens to raise themselves up by the bookstraps. As my hero, Mitch Daniels, in his wisdom pointed out, “We are not a nation of haves and have-nots – we are a nation of haves and soon-to-haves”

For someone who doesn’t know the image behind lifting yourself by your own bootstraps, “bookstraps” may actually make more sense. I like it.
