I have several exx. of “catch in on” meaning something like “(take the opportunity to) cash in on, profit from.” In several of these contexts “catch” alone would work just fine.
I was able to catch in on the last part of the prayer-meeting [… followed by speaker’s self-aware comment: of course there’s no money given out at prayer meetings]
