Crowd Pleaser => Crown Pleaser

Did i find one?!

I think its legit, i noticed it here:

http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/paul … age-2.html

The review by Kami, says “crown pleaser instead of crowd pleaser, and there seem to be other similar instances in googles top ten hits for “crown pleaser”

Is it real? when do we publish?

Re: Crowd Pleaser => Crown Pleaser

I had a bit of difficulty in seeing this as anything other than something which might amuse a monarch – possibly the opposite of a crowd-pleaser – but if we allow ‘crown’ something of an adjectival role then crown-pleaser could mean the top, the uppermost, the best of all possible pleasers. Then it could be an eggcorn, but if by ‘publish’ you mean have it entered on the Eggcorn Database, please don’t expect anything anytime soon. And – far more important – welcome to the forum!

Peter—you beat me to it by moments.

The monarch imagery works for me—the idea that something is “fit for a king” could be informing the logic here.

As Peter’s hits reading indicates, this is more widespread than I would have guessed. A good find, I think, but, yeah, I don’t think the logjam for getting into the Database will be breaking up any time soon.

Re: Crowd Pleaser => Crown Pleaser

Shall we nominate it for eggcoronation? (Your term, wasn’t that, Peter?)
.
At what point should we make up a list to recommend to Chris for inclusion in the database? Or make a new section here for such: any entry getting thumbs-up from 3 or more reggulars could go in there, or something like that? Sort of a pre-screening for Chris or whoever else functions as gateskippers?

Re: Crowd Pleaser => Crown Pleaser

I suspect that Chris is short of time, not lists—she’s often noted that she has a huge back-clog already. And I bet that “crown pleaser” is going to turn up on some of the best of the year lists, which we know Chris looks out for.
