I saw this eggcorn for “whirlwind” yesterday on MSNBC which was
broadcasting emails by a certain governor who’d just confessed
to a love affair.
By the by, this is my first contribution. Hope I did it right!

Welcome, AuntShecky. You did everything right, almost. In these latter days, a complete search of all the databanks is pretty well de rigueur. And the juicier and more widespread the find, the more likely that one of the old hands saw it in 2005. A post by klakritz (I think it was klakritz) a few days ago pointed out the most efficient way to search the archives. You should click on Eggcorn Database above, then enter your eggcorn into the second search slot on the right. Then, if nothing, enter its corresponding acorn. When I entered “whirlwind” there, this is what I found: whirlwind . Enjoy.

Thank you, Burred. I’ll remember to check the database next
time. I’m also going to tell my friends about this intriguing website.
