STEAK holders (stake-)

A stakeholder is one who has a stake in the outcome of a policy, and stakeholders are often the “haves” rather than the “have-nots”. A “steak holder” is someone holding a steak: he has something we all want, and he has a stake in not letting us have it. (Heck! More for him, less for us). And such is the logic of the term “steak holder” as it uses this literal imagery in a figurative way.

Re: STEAK holders (stake-)

There may also be more nuanced interpretations of steak. We speak of things with substance as “having meat.” A steak, being a substantive portion, may also imply a significant commitment to something.
