Buffooned

Hi, I am new and I am so glad I found this forum. I performed a search on “buffooned” before I started this thread, so I think this may be a new one. A relative of my created something of a beast out of the noun “buffoon,” and says things like, “I was so buffooned by her rude comment that I didn’t know what to say.” This relative obviously meant to say baffled instead, but it is said often enough that it must be a word by now. Maybe this is more of a malaprop than an eggcorn?
