Matzo brei is a Jewish version of French Toast- a mixture of crumbled matzo and beaten egg fried into a loose pancake. The phrase ‘matzo fry’ seems to be used interchangeably and some writers assume it’s a literal translation from the Yiddish original, but I think ‘brei’ actually means something more like ‘mush’ or ‘paste.’ (100k ghits for ‘matzo brei’ vs 800 for ‘matzo fry’):
