Confection Oven

I saw a friend of a friend posting about the new oven her parents had bought with a “confection option”, which was pretty clearly meant to be a “convection option”.

I see a previous post about “convention ovens”

but my search didn’t turn this one up.

Googling for “confection oven” gets a few jokes—UrbanDictionary defines a “confection oven” as “An oven that uses a lightbulb to try and bake sweet treats” for instance. But I also see lots of real references.

There’s generally a lot of confusion about what makes a convection oven different from conventional. I think a lot of people first hear the word when they move into a house with an existing convection oven. Unfamiliarity might lead people to imagine that this type of oven was primarily designed to cook confections, which is probably a more familiar word to anyone who hasn’t been involved in chemistry or physics lately. (This might also lead to confusion about what non-confectionary foods can be cooked using a convection oven….)

Also more than a hundred unique examples of “conviction oven.” Myself, I prefer ovens with loose morals.
