Card sharp v card shark

Is a card shark a modern card sharp, or vice versa?

http://www.phrases.org.uk/meanings/card-sharp.html discusses but does not conclude?

Re: Card sharp v card shark

I think they already gave a conclusion there:

“The latter (card-shark) is the more commonly used of the two synonymous phrases, especially outside the UK, which is one of the few countries to prefer card-sharp.”

In simpler terms, it is known as card-shark around the world, except for a few countries like UK who prefers to use the term card-sharp.
